Loss
At the end of last week Mikhail Tolochko passed away, one of the most talented players ever to emerge from the Novosibirsk hockey.
In 1974, he played his first match for the «Siberia» hockey club squad. In September of 1975 Mikhail Tolochko became one of the heroes of the legendary game against the CSKA Moscow (Red Army Team). Tolochko’s team owned the ice during this debut game in the top Russian hockey league, and managed to win a sensational victory over one of the strongest clubs in the world - 5:4. Tolochko scored two goals on goalkeeper Vladislav Tretiak.
In 1976, while playing on the Russian National youth hockey team, he became European Champion, and World Champion. In the finals, the Russians defeated the Canadians - 8:2.
After completing his professional hockey career Mikhail Tolochko worked for the hockey clubs «Siberia» in Novosibirsk and «Motor» in Barnaul as General Manager. For many years Tolochko coached young hockey players in various hockey academies.
Mikhail Tolochko was only 52 years old...
In memory of Coach Mike and to recognize his invaluable contribution to the Red Rangers program, all teams will proudly wear the Misha Tolochko memorial badge (shown above) on Red Rangers home and away jerseys. In addition to this tribute, the Red Rangers family would like to provide a channel to help provide support to Mike’s family. Those interested in contributing to this cause may do so by sending a check to:
Breakaway Ice – f\b\o Tolochko Memorial Fund

The Red Rangers program is investigating other possible means to remember Coach Mike. Perhaps most fittingly, the program remains committed to instilling the passion and vigor for the sport of hockey and our young kids who play it; just as Mike so readily showed us on a daily basis.
